Mecanum wheels are a nifty invention that lets a vehicle drive sideways by attaching small rollers to the outside of the wheel, angled 45 degrees off the main axis of rotation. I’ve always wanted to play with them, but could never justify the cost of buying them pre-made. Each wheel alternates the angle of the rollers, so when they counter-rotate, the vehicle can drive sideways. Forward, backward, and diagonal translation are also possible, as well as skid-steering-style rotation. Though fun…
Why? The goal of this project was to implement a dual extrusion modification for a SeeMeCNC Rostock Max V2 delta printer. The secondary goal was to challenge myself to design any new parts from scratch as a learning exercise. Once built, playing around with options like multicolor or multimaterial printing should be fun! Although an imposing project to start, I was surprised to get such good mechanical performance from the design. Most of the print challenges in early testing can…

Ever since I was kicked out of the Boy Scouts, I’ve wondered about all the nifty knots that I haven’t learned. Sometimes I’d even read big books o’ knots and practice lots of them. I can learn anything,” and just assumed that the skill would come. It didn’t, and it’s clear that I’m…
Have you ever been in the middle of explaining something and realized partway through that you were wrong? This is the place where I get a chance to do that, only online. “You don’t know something until you can teach it.” One point of this blog is to force myself to write complete discussions on a topic so that I have to organize and review my own thoughts. Even for a largely hypothetical or nonexistent readership, the act of writing…
